MICAH continues multi-pronged push to help inmates during COVID-19 threat

Lee said MICAH put the “full weight” of its coalition behind the push to reduce the population at the local detention facilities. She said the organization reached out to Shelby County Dist. Attorney General Amy Weirich, Shelby County Public Defender Phyllis Aluko, Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner and Harris. 

She said the group asked the top county law enforcement officials for transparency and to release some of those detained or to “put pressure on judges and local law enforcement groups to consider releasing specific categories of individuals, including the medically compromised and vulnerable.”
