Project Homeless Connect

Project Homeless Connect, on October 17th, was a huge success. Special thanks to Atty. Coco Sprague who spearheaded the effort for our office. Here's a run-down from Coco:

More people came to the table than we were able to assist. We provided information about criminal issues, including expungement questions, driver’s license restoration, voting rights reinstatement, cost waivers, and general criminal legal issues. Other legal service providers, including Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) and the Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk were present.

Our volunteers helped many people. A few stand out: one gentleman lost his license 20+ years ago. With our help he learned that he was eligible for reinstatement of his driving privilege with just one simple task. We were also able to assist a young man who was eligible to have a diverted case removed from his record. After Project Homeless Connect, he truly has a clean slate! These are just two examples of how our attorneys, social workers, and legal assistants connected people who don’t have the tools and access to navigate the criminal justice system with powerful information. Special thanks to all of our volunteers: Angela Kirby, Angela Smith, Jamaye Mckinney, Jennifer Dilley, Kaitlin Beck, Latonya Burrow, Leslie Mozingo, Melissa Baker, Nigel Lewis, Sean Dowling, Seth Segraves, Stacey Smith, and Stephanie Russell. They went above and beyond!
